Each summer, Honduran Pastor Miguel Urrea comes to Chicago to visit family and gather supplies to ship back to Honduras for the poor and elderly in his congregation and community in El Progreso, Honduras. As one way that our congregation can continue to support the people of Honduras and build our relationship with Pastor Miguel and his congregation, Zion United Church of Christ is in the process of collecting supplies to contribute to Pastor Miguel's shipment when he visits September 14-16. We'd like to invite people throughout the Milwaukee area to join us in gathering supplies for Honduras. We will be gathering the following supplies throughout the summer to fill a shipping container to give to Pastor Miguel when he visits:
Bikes Living room furniture
Beds with bed frame Air Conditioners
Washing machines (no dryers) Refrigerators
hand tools or small power tools Wood Furniture
small household appliances (irons, ovens, toasters, etc.)
electronics (DVD/CD players, microwaves, scanners, sound systems)
toys stuffed animals

cribs
house paint (indoor or outdoor, unused & unopened cans only)
Toiletries & Medical supplies: Aspirin, vitamins, gauze, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, towels, diabetes medicine, medicine for urinary infections, blood pressure medicine, powdered milk, disposable diapers, skin creams and medicine.
***All supplies/items may be used but should be useable and in good condition - if you wouldn't give them to a friend or neighbor, please don't donate them. All supplies and items may be delivered to the Zion UCC church office, 3301 S. 76th Street in Milwaukee (phone: 414-543-4646) by September 14 during office hours (8:30 am to 12 noon, Monday through Thursday). A Musical Celebration of Worship
Take time to experience the Peace and Joy of the season ....in August! Why not celebrate the Joy of Christmas all year through? Join us for worship next Sunday, August 26, at 9:00 am a Zion UCC as songwriter, author and worship leader Cheryl Kirking will weave her original songs and home-spun humor with heart-warming stories from her Christmas book, All is Calm. All is Bright . Enjoy a mid-year Christmas singalong and some of Cheryl's touching songs like "What Can I Give Jesus?" and "Christmas of my Dreams." Cheryl will tickle your funny bones and tug at your heart strings, while reminding us all keep the Peace and Joy of Christmas in our hearts all year long. The service will include a special time for children. A free will offering will be taken. Books and CDs will be available. Wear red or green, if you feel festive!
This would be a wonderful opportunity to invite a friend to join us for a meaningful and fun worship in concert...and, yes, there will be Christmas cookies afterwards!
